Information

We are thrilled to announce the return of the 300 Words Creative Writing Competition, inspired by the Great Tapestry of Scotland. New for 2026, the competition is now open to pupils across Scotland, inviting young writers to explore the nation’s history, heritage and legends through their own original stories. Inspired by the tapestry’s 160 embroidered panels, the initiative encourages creativity, imagination and bold storytelling in just 300 words. Having already inspired hundreds of young writers, the competition continues to showcase the incredible talent and unique voices of Scotland’s next generation. This year’s winners will be celebrated at the Borders Book Festival, with prizes presented by acclaimed children’s author Vivian French.
