Information

Over a period of two years sculptor Jake Harvey and book artist Helen Douglas undertook research in the Lewisian gneiss complex of North Uist and Berneray. Their collaboration resulted in a major 2025 exhibition and the beautifully illustrated publication Meeting Point: Within the Lewisian. Their work arrives at a fitting moment. 2026 sees the 300th anniversary of the birth of James Hutton, the great Scottish scientist who farmed in Berwickshire. In essence, he invented the science of geology and was the first to understand the immense age of the Earth. Jake and Helen will be joined by Alan McKirdy, the distinguished geologist and writer, to set their work in a historical context.
