Information

For fourteen years the £25,000 Walter Scott Prize has been a mainstay of the festival, bringing a touch of literary glitz and drama as the winner is revealed. Now managed by the home of great historical fiction, Abbotsford, the prize celebrates this year’s six shortlisted authors – Kevin Barry, Angharad Hampshire, Francesca Kay, Ferdia Lennon, Andrew Miller and Yael van der Wouden – in this opening gala. Expect exceptional fiction read aloud, and a celebration of storytelling, fine writing and originality. While you await the event, why not whet your literary tastebuds with a visit to Abbotsford, Walter Scott’s “romance in stone and mortar”, to see where it all started.
