Experience the exciting energy of award-winning Irish/ Danish pianist Nils Kavanagh, as he brings his genre-blending trio to Boyle Arts Festival. With roots in both Irish tradition and Scandinavian jazz, Nils creates music that is as explorative as it is melodic—fusing Celtic influences, modern jazz, and inventive takes on familiar repertoire into a fresh and compelling piano trio sound.

Hailing from County Sligo, Nils began his musical journey at six and discovered jazz at sixteen through the Sligo Jazz Project. Since then, he’s been lighting up stages across Ireland and beyond—named Young Irish Jazz Musician of the Year (2022–2024) and a finalist in the 2024 BBC Young Jazz Musician competition.

Nils leads an energetic piano trio consisting of young players who, like himself, aim to explore new sounds and their own voice in this classic format. Nils Kavanagh (piano), Sam Green (drums) and Marcus Baber (bass) all have a deep trust and innate chemistry with each other, only strengthened by their recent touring and recording together. They are releasing their debut album in early 2025.

Expect a vibrant performance filled with rhythmic drive, harmonic colour, and dynamic improvisation - this is jazz with heart, heritage, and a bold contemporary edge.
