Gardeners new and old are invited to Camp Out in Hospitalfield’s paddock for a weekend-long programme of walks, talks and workshops centred around the question 'What is Wild?'.
This year’s programme centres on the question of, What is Wild? and looks at the history of what we have come to call ‘wild’.
As a starting point we are looking at William Robinson’s 1883 book ‘The Wild Garden’ which inspired gardeners such as Gertrude Jekyll and continues to influence gardeners of today who are looking closely at wilderness and natural formations of planting that inspire them.
What is Wild? Is this a garden that is knowingly nurtured at a time of loss? Loss of species, loss of habitat, resource depletion. If we know about all this loss can we, in our backyards and community gardens, create a counterbalance?
Grow Up! is a weekend long programme of walks, talks and workshops dedicated to answering this question of What is Wild and why wilderness is worth nurturing. We will explore these challenges through learning, thinking and doing. Expect guided walks, talks and workshops on topics ranging from brownfield sites, rewilding, plant communities and pond making.
