Information

DIAL (Chapter 5: May) by Christodoulos Makris, in a semi-improvised words-and-sounds collaboration with Joanna Mattrey, Nick Roth, and Keith Lindsay.

DIAL is a durational-procedural-aleatory work of poetic prose composed through real-time transcriptions from global radio produced daily over a full calendar year (2021), bridged by brief sections of 'original' writing. This semi-improvised collaboration with Joanna Mattrey, Nick Roth and Keith Lindsay features a spoken excerpt from Chapter 5 (May) of DIAL, overlaid by saxophone, viola, electronics w/ live radio feedback & looped sounds.

Christodoulos Makris is "one of Ireland's foremost avant-garde poets" (The Irish Times). He has published 5 books of poetry as well as several other poetry objects. His awards include Writer in Residence at Maynooth University, a Project Commission from IMMA, a Poetry Residency at StAnza Festival, Scotland, a Creativity Bursary from UCD, an Artist Residency at Irish Arts Center, New York, a Curatorial Commission from MoLI, and a Poetry Commission from Cúirt Festival, among others.

Nick Roth is a saxophonist, composer, producer and educator. He has served as artist-in-residence at institutions including the European Space Agency (ESTEC), California Academy of Sciences (CalAcademy), dlr LexIcon, Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris (CCI), and the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA). He is a partner at Diatribe Records, Ireland's leading record label for new music.

Joanna Mattrey is a New York City/Dublin based violist, composer, improviser, and multimedia artist, whose works blend installation, video, sound, and movement, and are often site-specific. She has performed with Tyshawn Sorey, Henry Threadgill, Marc Ribot, John Zorn, Billy Martin, Elliott Sharp, Miya Masaoka, The Crash Ensemble, the International Contemporary Ensemble, and Irish National Opera.
