As part of their UK tour, Yama Warashi (Former band member of Rosi Plain's) & Ayu Okakita visit us from Japan bringing their eclectic and ever-evolving style featuring electonic-synthesis and Piano with influences of Japanese folk dance, free jazz, African music and psychedelia & Shigihara.
Yama Warashi
Yama Warashi. First founded in Bristol circa 2015 and centred on a
close-knit coterie of gifted collaborators led by Shigihara, the output of
Yama Warashi has since flourished across one EP and three albums,
from the graceful spiritual jazz of 2016’s ‘MOON ZERO’ to the evocative,
psychedelic dreamworlds of her debut album ‘Moon Egg’ - released in the
same year - to the existential, Bon Odori-inspired music of 2018’s ‘Boiled
Moon’. Relocating to London, after being drawn to the city by its open-
minded music scene - especially the activity centred around Cafe OTO and
the Total Refreshment Centre - Shigihara released ‘Crispy Moon’ in 2022,
unfurling even grander, more lavish depths within her multifaceted
soundworld.
Check out Yama Warashi on ‘At My Mother’s Piano’, crafting
exquisite, improvisational solo piano works interlaced with vivid field
recordings, inspired by a trip back to her family home in Ashiya City,
Hyōgo, Japan in 2024.
Ayu Okakita
Ayu Okakita is a Japanese singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. Through her personal compositions, Ayu is ethereal, enigmatic, and versatile in style, creating an emotionally and mentally striking atmosphere.
Venue Info
The Granton Pianodrome is a DIY grassroots venue set in a warehouse on an Industrial estate shared with some van rental companies and used car sales. Ours is the most colourful unit at the end: You'll see a grand piano on top of a shipping container!
Toilets
Please note that we simply have one compost toilet at this venue (made out of pianos) which may not be accessible for some guests. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and assure you that we are doing our best to remedy this issue.
