Join us to celebrate the launch of this brand new poetry zine, and take home your own copy. Created by the people supported by the Simon Community Scotland through Streetreads, a library and community for people experiencing homelessness in Edinburgh, the zine explores their hopes and stories. You’ll hear group members perform their work, with additional performances from facilitators Julie McNeill and Kevin Gilday. Refreshments provided.
Push the Boat Out and Julie McNeill worked with the group over 11 weeks to inspire them to get interested in poetry and to create their own for the zine. The group also worked with Kevin Gilday to hone their performances, and with Tee Hodges from Typewronger Books to layout the zine.
Streetreads is a physical library run by the Simon Community which has grown into an integral part of the community, serving as a hub for learning and connection. It has recently moved to a new space on Slater’s Steps. The Simon Community Scotland believes that Everyone deserves a safe place to live and access to the support they need. Everyday they support people impacted by homelessness or at risk of losing their home.
In partnership with the Simon Community Scotland and supported by One City Trust. With thanks to Typewronger Books.
