In 2018, Velvet began gigging across Glasgow and the central belt. In time, their pop beginnings gave way to a more visceral, raw and honest sonic depiction of themselves, however their sensibilities remain.
Velvet have played alongside acts like Benefits, Los Bitchos and The Howl and the Hum, with standout shows at The Rum Shack, Summerhall and Stereo respectively. Velvet’s influences include Pixies, The 1975, and Fontaines D.C, mixed with sounds from The Velvet Underground and Funkadelic, creating a contrasting sound.
Gritty and open, and nostalgic yet, understatedly immediate. Known for their energetic live performances and shared frontman duties, Velvet have earned a solid reputation on stages throughout the city. Now fully independent—writing, producing, and releasing everything themselves—Velvet return with a fresh sense of purpose.
Their new single Under the Water comes out on May 1st, marking the beginning of their next chapter.
