SCAMP – Landscape Connections

Solway Coast and Marine Project takes over Speakers' Corner with an evening of Songs and Science. Look forward to nature restoration innovation, marine ecology and Gaelic songs performed by Emily Smith

6:00pm ‐ 8:00pm
Stranraer Oyster Festival
Breastworks Car Park, 13 Market Street, Stranraer, DG9 7RF

Information

The Solway Coast and Marine Project transforms Speakers' Corner into a celebration of our coastal heritage with an evening of Songs & Science.

Award-winning folk singer Emily Smith will weave Gaelic songs of the sea throughout the evening, providing a poetic backdrop to fascinating talks about the marine life beneath Loch Ryan's surface. You'll hear from Tristan Hugh-Jones about why Loch Ryan's native oysters are in such high demand for conservation projects across Europe, learn about underwater ecology from Galloway Fisheries Trust, hear about the innovative research techniques being pioneered by the Scottish Association for Marine Science.

This evening of songs and science bridges the gap between our maritime past and our sustainable future, and the programme concludes with SCAMP's new film showcasing the stunning local marine environment.

A limited number of tickets are available for those wanting to experience the full programme and Emily Smith's performances. However, the format is designed to welcome festival-goers throughout the evening - feel free to drop in for the talks or songs that particularly interest you, with our hosts directing you to available seating between segments.

This is your chance to discover the hidden treasures beneath Loch Ryan's waves while being transported by some of Scotland's most beautiful traditional songs of the sea.

This event is delivered with Solway Coast and Marine Project (SCAMP) – Landscape Connections, through their funding from National Lottery Heritage Fund. SCAMP is restoring the Solway’s coastal and marine habitats for the wellbeing of nature, people and climate.
